This summer, Superchefs delivered 2 weeks of afternoon programming for SD36‘s Transitions Programs and 4 weeks of our own full day summer camp - 3 weeks of Level 1 and one week of Level 2. Transitions programs were afternoon sessions of soccer or basketball with Grade 7 students going into Grade 8. We ran these camps at multiple schools around Surrey. These programs were 1-day activities with a new group of kids each day. SD36 Transitions was pleased with the success of the program.

SD36 Summer Camps This summer, Superchefs delivered 2 weeks of afternoon programming for SD36‘s Transitions Programs and 4 weeks of our own full day summer camp - 3 weeks of Level 1 and one week of Level 2. Transitions programs were afternoon sessions of soccer or basketball with Grade 7 students going into Grade 8. We ran these camps at multiple schools around Surrey. These programs were 1-day activities with a new group of kids each day. SD36 Transitions was pleased with the success of the program. Our Superchefs day camp program was more organized and standardized than in the past and the results appear to have been very successful. Camps ran out of Queen Elizabeth Secondary School and the cooking portion was in the mornings, followed by a 1-hour nutrition lesson, and ended with basketball. Level 1 ran super smoothly – the kids had a great time learning in a fun and interactive way. Recipes included in Level 1 were crepes + parfaits, pita pizzas, pasta and chicken fingers + cornbread. We included students from Bridgeview, James Ardiel, AHP Matthew and Green Timbers Elementary. We had some great students come through camps and have a large pool of candidates to include in future Level 2 camps as well as events. Come Level 2, the counselors also had a great time with the more advanced recipes, as well as catching up with the kids from the previous year and seeing how they’d grown from the program. The recipes included in Level 2 were shepherd’s pie, spinach ricotta ravioli, salad rolls + nicoise salad, and Cornish game hens, roasted vegetables + blueberry pie. Once again SD36 was pleased with everything and we have high hopes to continue these camps in the future, as well as potentially add on a Level 3 component. This summer we incorporated nutrition lessons 3 days a week – a pH lesson, a food guide lesson, and a food label lesson. Students responded really well to the activities included but when the lesson got too long they lost interest. The weeklong egg experiment was definitely the most successful activity of the nutrition lessons.
